[Final Review] Heartstopper – Season 1

[Final Review] Heartstopper – Season 1

Oh, my parched Merthur heart! ❤️💙

This has been sitting in my Netflix recommendations after I watched a bunch of BL dramas. I resisted it for quite a while because I didn’t want to watch another student drama in this lifetime. I’ve reached my limit for student dramas. However, my curiosity got the better of me when TikTok led me to Heartstopper-Merthur parallels. Yes, TikTok is the culprit, yet again! This one is a treat.

Having been queer-baited and heartbroken by Arthur’s death, this is the closure I’ve been waiting for. Yes (to whoever wrote this in the comment section somewhere in the depths of TikTok), I agree that this show is a love letter to Merlin BBC. How is this closure, you ask? I just imagine it to be the reincarnation of Merlin and Arthur because LOOK AT THEM. LOOK. AT. THEM. Look at the actors, their hair, their dynamic, and tell me that’s not them because that’s definitely them. Don’t try to reason with me. I don’t want to hear it.

I’m not going to dissect this one. It’s your typical student romance: jock meets wallflower and they fall in love. The jock fell first and then, fell harder. The jock defends the wallflower. He’s the green flag. The jock is Nick. The wallflower is Charlie. Supportive friends exist. Bullies exist. The LGBT community exists Well, ok fine, this is new but it’s a Western gay drama. I was expecting that.

I finished season one in one sitting. Will I be back for the second season? Perhaps.
